A few hours of SMART work or a a lifetime of HARD work?

There is no doubt that hard work pays off, but more interestingly smart work could pay you more :)
People believed that productivity  and achievements go in parallel to longer exhausting hours of work…..

Does it really ?????

Perhaps the idea of hard work being the foremost important key of success has been instilled in our minds from early start, but this is not always the case. Someday it may just strike that working tirelessly for long hours is not always right, or the sole path to gain success.

Overtime does not increase productivity, have you ever given a thought about 40 hours of work in a week. Well this was adopted from outcome of Henry Ford’s experiment.

On September 25, 1926, Ford Motor Company founder Henry Ford made a groundbreaking change by being one of the first significant companies to change his work policy to 40 hour week with five working days, without any change in wages. He realized that the main motive is profit and that comes when customers get enough time to relax and go out for shopping, this is possible only if they have time off work. The number of working days in a week from six to five had originally been taken in 1922 as it was observed that an individual needs two days for relaxation and recreation.

I found some lines on the internet and I felt like sharing with all:

In a 1926 interview to a magazine, World's Work, Ford said: "Leisure is an indispensable ingredient in a growing consumer market because working people need to have enough free time to find uses for consumer products, including automobiles."
"It is high time to rid ourselves of the notion that leisure for workmen is either 'lost time' or a class privilege," Ford stated.

Well, I am not here to blame anyone for asking overtime with motive to increase productivity or achieve something in lesser span of time. But we all need to think does it really help?? There are times when work requires extra hours, especially in IT industries. It can be taken up with little breaks which would otherwise lead to reduced efficiency and it is like we are enclosed in a box. Our brain needs free time before it can starts afresh. Many a times while coding or debugging we are unable to find loophole or find a fix for it, next time we start with fresh mind and it is done. It did happen to others too, didn’t it???

Analyze the task assigned to you and do calculate the time and effort needed for that, also think if it’s level of productivity be beneficial to you???? Once you are done with analysis go for it or say ‘NO’, there is always a way for that. Use it wisely :)

Learn to share the burden and take help from people, you need not be jack of all trades even if you think you can. This also gives you quality time when you can focus on many other important things or learn something to improve your skills and knowledge or save time for your loved ones…. :) :)
Every workplace has its own ethics and work culture but we need to be smart, make your body less and brain work more!!

A few hours of SMART work or a a lifetime of HARD work? Work hard but in smart ways....

Now you choose your path... :)
